ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota’s Area I potato growers voted to pass a referendum increasing its checkoff fee. The council requested an increase from $0.03 to $0.05 per cwt. The increase pertains only to growers in Area I, located in northwestern Minnesota.
Through an automatic checkoff program, farmers pay a percentage of their sale proceeds to their commodity council. Commodity councils use these funds to pay for promotion, communication and research activities aimed at increasing profitability for growers.
