The International Biocontrol Industry Symposium will be held March 1-2, in Monterey, Calif. It is organized by the Biopesticide Industry Alliance (BPIA) in conjunction with the Association of National Biocontrol Producers (ANBP), the International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association (IBMA), and Meister Media Worldwide.
Agenda topics will include regulatory harmonization; regional bio-protection updates from the U.S., European Union, Latin America, and Africa; Global bio-protection market; and emerging technologies.
Industry thought leaders who will be speaking include:
- Jim Jones, assistant administrator for the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention of the EPA. Jones is responsible for managing the office that implements the nation’s pesticide, toxic chemical and pollution prevention laws.
- Luuk van Duijn, executive secretary to the Board for the Authorization of Plant Protection Products (PPPs) and biocides director of the secretariat. Van Duijn is principal authority of PPPs for member states in the EU’s Central Zone.
“The need for sustainable solutions for feeding a fast-growing world population has led to an annual projected growth rate for the use of biological products in conventional agriculture in the double digits,” says BPIA executive director Keith Jones. “This conference will update attendees on the latest developments and trends in biological technology, regulatory issues and related matters from both the perspective of regional and global thought leaders in biocontrol.”
