A new potato variety will be introduced at Coles supermarkets in the Australian states of Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia this week. The Gourmandine is a yellow-fleshed potato with a smooth, waxy skin and nutty flavor.
The Mitolo family of Virginia, South Australia, are the first Australian farmers to grow the Gourmandine potato, which is already popular in Europe. Gourmandine seed has been imported from France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The cultivar is a three-time winner of the French “Taste of the Year” award, which is reviewed by an independent consumer panel.
