University of Arkansas weed scientists have been observing differences in performance for various herbicides since they began documenting resistance in Palmer amaranth to PPO inhibitor herbicides.

That means growers may have to rethink how they control the problem weed in some of their fields. Tom Barber, an extension weed scientist with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, discussed some of those findings during Pigposium 3 in Forrest City, Ark.

Barber said the time of day herbicides, especially glufosinate or Liberty, are applied and can also make a difference in efficacy, as shown by studies conducted at the University of Tennessee and North Carolina State University.
