Michigan State University (MSU) Extension invites you to participate in the 2021 MI Ag Ideas to Grow With conference to be held virtually, Feb. 15-19, 2021. This unique event combines past MSU Extension events such as Ag Action Day, Branch County Farmers Day, and Southwest Michigan Horticulture Days into a cumulative weeklong program encompassing many aspects of the agricultural industry and offering a full array of educational session for farmers and homeowners interested in food production and those considering agricultural endeavors. Specific sessions focused on farm business topics will be offered during the opening day of the event, Monday, February 15th.

“Operating a farm business encompasses more than just production practices.  Working with your lender, knowing the farm’s current financial health, how to transition the farm to the next generation, and even navigating the opportunities from recent farm legislation are all important topics to the success of a farm business,” said Jon LaPorte, MSU Extension Education based in Cass County.

This week-long educational experience will feature a variety of tracks focused on farm business management. Session topics will include discussions on farm bill programs (PLC vs. ARC, including new insurance options), how to prepare to work with a lender, succession planning, farm labor recruitment and regulation impacts, understanding the farm’s financial health, and updates on the coronavirus relief programs for 2020 and 2021.

“We are excited about offering the MI Ag Ideas to Grow With conference,” said Beth Ferry, MSU Extension Educator based in Berrien County. “We plan to offer a variety of educational topics and sessions that speak to the robust agricultural industry in Michigan and increasing interest in food production.”

While there is no cost to participate, attendees must register in order to receive the necessary zoom links. Attendees are able to attend as many sessions as they would like and are also able to jump around between tracks. RUP and CCA credits will be offered for several of the sessions.
