Kutay Ozturk, potato pathologist with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, recently made growers aware of a new bulletin available online, "Management of Volunteer Potatoes."
She said that due to milder winters in recent years the management of volunteer potatoes has become a bigger issue and managing these volunteers helps considerably against problems such as PVY or late blight. She has listed the management strategies in the bulletin and hopes some of these methods can be implemented when practical.
