Richland, WA – Lamb Weston Holdings, Inc., a leading global potato supplier, has announced its partnership with Atlas Agro for the procurement of locally produced, green fertilizers.

This strategic partnership is part of Lamb Weston’s continued focus on sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship and is expected to deliver an estimated 99 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when compared to traditional fertilizer production.

As part of this agreement, Atlas Agro’s state-of-the-art Pacific Green Fertilizer (PGF) plant, located in Richland, WA, will supply locally produced, green fertilizers to Lamb  Weston’s farming operations when the facility is built in 2028. This initiative underscores Lamb Weston’s dedication to reduce its emissions across its supply chain with a goal of net zero company-owned farm emissions by 2030.

The agreement highlights Lamb Weston’s proactive approach to environmental responsibility, leading the broader industry towards green practices. Lamb Weston believes this move will reduce the carbon emissions associated with its fertilizer use in  potato farming.

“The future of agriculture hinges on our ability to innovate sustainably,” said Steve  Bannworth, Vice President of Agriculture at Lamb Weston. “This new program aligns with Lamb Weston’s sustainability goals of safe, wholesome food, climate resiliency,  farm and community prosperity.”

“With this agreement, Lamb Weston is leading the way to decarbonize the food and agriculture sectors,” said Petter Østbø, CEO at Atlas Agro. “By leveraging our innovative green fertilizer solutions, particularly in potato farming, we are both reducing  greenhouse gas emissions and setting a new standard for sustainable agricultural  practices across the industry. Our commitment to local, fossil-free fertilizer production  offers an important alternative, decreasing the reliance on imported fertilizers,  supporting local job creation and creating local supply chain stability. We are proud to  contribute to this transformative journey.”
