Ukrainian potato producers are once again being forced to lower prices for their products, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. As of today, there is an oversupply of potatoes on the Ukrainian market.
Most local farmers are striving to sell off their remaining stocks as quickly as possible, as the quality of potatoes in storage continues to deteriorate rapidly.
According to daily monitoring data from the project, wholesale prices for potatoes in Ukraine have now dropped to 13–23 UAH/kg ($0.31–0.56/kg), which is on average 14 percent lower than at the end of last working week. The main reason for the price decline in the domestic market is the increase in supply of both imported and locally produced potatoes.
Wholesale market operators report that high-quality Polish potatoes from last year’s harvest are currently available on the Ukrainian market. Moreover, the prices for imported potatoes are being offered within the same range as those for local products.
It is worth noting, however, that as of now, potatoes in Ukraine are still, on average, 28 percent more expensive than they were in early April 2024. Given the considerable volumes available on the market, Ukrainian farmers do not rule out the possibility of further price reductions in this segment.
