Colorado State University’s 2024 Nutrien Ag Day BBQ is set for Saturday, Sept. 7, prior to the Rams football game against the University of Northern Colorado Bears at Canvas Stadium.

CSU’s 43rd Ag Day will be a celebration of the deeply rooted agricultural tradition of both universities’ northern Colorado communities and colleges. CSU fans will don their Aggie Orange attire for the occasion as a nod to Colorado A&M’s original colors, pumpkin orange and alfalfa green.

Since 1981, CSU Ag Day has honored the University’s land-grant mission and rich history as a leader in agricultural research, education and outreach. The event has grown from humble beginnings as a fundraiser for students studying agricultural sciences into an annual celebration that draws more than 3,500 people to campus and generates $20,000 in scholarship funding each year.

In 2019, the Nutrien Ag Day BBQ was renamed in honor of Nutrien’s $10M long-term investment in the College of Agricultural Sciences.

Nutrien Ag Day BBQ

The College of Agricultural Sciences’ pre-game Nutrien Ag Day BBQ features fresh Colorado food and activities for participants of all ages. The barbecue site is open starting at 1 p.m., with food service until 4 p.m. Attendees do not need a ticket to enter.

This year’s Nutrien Ag Day BBQ will take place on the intramural fields south of CSU’s Student Recreation Center, along Meridan Ave. The site, just west of last year’s location, co-locates the barbecue alongside the Ram Walk Tailgate pre-game festivities hosted by CSU Athletics and the Alumni Association.

The barbecue’s Ag Experience Zone, co-hosted by CSU’s Office of Engagement and Extension, celebrates Colorado youth and agriculture through educational activities from a variety of tabling partners, offering fun for the whole family including an ag-trail activity, outdoor games, and face-paint.

Fundamental to the tradition of the barbecue is the important partnership between CSU and agricultural partners across the state. Food served at the event is locally grown and produced and proceeds from ticket sales support student scholarship funding for agricultural sciences students who represent the future of the agriculture industry. Since 2000, more than 381 Ag Day scholarships have been awarded to CSU students in the College of Agricultural Sciences totaling nearly $600,000. The menu lineup will feature a variety of fresh, quality food products from around Colorado
