Cordoba Technologies, Inc. (CTI) was recently awarded a silver medal for its product, Hummingbird, from the 2018 Vector Awards sponsored by igus GmbH, a Germany-based manufacturer with U.S. headquarters in Providence, R.I. Santiago M. Prandi and Philip J. Reh, CTI’s co-founders, accepted the award during last month’s Hanover Messe trade show in Hanover, Germany.
The Vector Awards are presented during a competition that recognizes the world’s most innovative energy chain applications. This year’s event featured 187 applications from companies in 30 countries and was kicked off by German chancellor Angela Merkel.
Hummingbird reduces crop protection chemical use through an innovative precision spray system. In the application, a combination of cables and hoses are carried in a rail assembly that hangs under the pivot system. With pivot water off, the Hummingbird executes crop protection product application instructions from the user. The exceptional flexibility and precision placement of sensors or spray nozzles over a crop gives growers a powerful tool in the sustainable agriculture movement.
Hummingbird is a multi-tasking toolbar that allows precision placement of crop protection products in open fields. It replaces ground rig machines by using an asset already in the field: the center pivot irrigation system. It can be equipped with sensors and software that collect data about crop health and nutrient levels. With 24/7 on-demand availability of the system and its ability to operate with precision, only minimum amounts of crop protection products are typically applied.
Cordoba Technologies earned the silver award for its creative mechatronics design and the positive environmental impact its new technology offers.
